Google Workspace Business Email FAQs
How does Gmail in Google Workspace differ from free Gmail?
Google Workspace’s Gmail features include: custom business email @yourcompany, unlimited group email addresses, 99.9% guaranteed uptime, twice the storage of free Gmail, zero ads, 24/7 phone and email support, Google Workspace Sync for Microsoft Outlook, and more.
What is the difference between Google Apps for Work, Google Workspace and Gmail for Business?
Google Workspace was formerly known as Google Apps for Work and Google Apps for Your Domain. Some users also know it as Gmail for Business.
Can I use my existing domain with Google Workspace?
Yes, you can use an existing domain with your Google Workspace order.
Can I import or migrate my existing email and contacts to Google Workspace?
Yes, when switching to Google Workspace from another application or service, like Microsoft Outlook, you can bring your existing mail, contacts, and calendar data with you. You have a variety of options for migrating data into Google Workspace, depending on the size of your organization and the system you’re migrating from.
Will I experience email downtime during the transition?
No, you’ll continue to send/receive email as usual. To use Gmail with Google Workspace, you setup your domain (MX records) to direct your mail flow to the Google mail servers. Once the MX records change takes effect (up to 72 hours), you can start receiving/sending email through your Google Workspace account. Until then, you’ll receive/send your email through your old mail system.
How does Google keep my information secure and prevent unauthorized access to my data?
Google Workspace has been built from the ground up to mitigate the unique threats for cloud systems. Google has an outstanding track record of protecting user data. They protect this data from outside intrusions as well as insider threats. Google employs dedicated security professionals to work on protecting your data, including some of the world’s foremost experts in computer security.
Is Google Workspace compatible with Microsoft Outlook and other email clients?
In addition to accessing Google Workspace mail from the Gmail web interface, you can send and receive mail from your favorite desktop client. Depending on the client, you can use either the IMAP or POP mail protocol. If you’re switching to Google Workspace from Microsoft Exchange or some other Outlook service, you can use Google Workspace Sync. This is a plug-in for Outlook 2003, 2007, 2010 or 2013 that lets you use Outlook to manage your Google Workspace mail, calendar and contacts—along with your Outlook notes, tasks and journal entries.
Can a user have multiple email addresses?
Yes. A user can have multiple email addresses by creating email aliases such as support@yourcompany. You can add up to 30 email aliases for each user.
Can I rename or delete a user?
Yes, you can delete a user.
Note: If you entered an incorrect username (for example, if you made a typo), rename the user instead of deleting the user and starting over again. When you change a user's primary email address, Google Workspace retains the old address as an email alias for the user, to ensure continuous mail delivery. Users retain access to all mail received under the previous name.
I have to send a lot of emails on a daily basis. Does Google Workspace impose a sending limit?
Google Workspace has a generous sending limit of 3,000 emails a day.
Allow Desktop Email Programs such as Microsoft Outlook Access to GSuite (Basic Authentication)
